Alicia Souza- A freelance Illustrator.
Let me start off with how did I come to know about Alicia Souza and then about Freelance Illustrator cause I know very little about what a freelance Illustrator is. Gee!
Uh! Well, one day while I was killing time on Social network, I erratically found some doodles and they were scripted with stories. I didn't know what it was. What made me absorbing and captivating is the love towards COFFEE and DOGS. I always loved them more than anything. This to me in grip and since then I fell in love with her work. She has a very intrinsic feel in her work which is more likely to attract people. Since then I started following her on Facebook. Though I never had any interest in doodling, her work somehow pulled me.
Dropped off by egrets, in the Middle East, Alicia Souza’s folks had a hard time keeping up to her experiments of drawing on doors and burning them because it’s faster than erasing. She followed her gut of studying down under only to find absolutely no sheep in the city. She then decided to huddle to India and is now smiling happily that every morning she can drink chai and grin at cows at a safe distance.
"When I got out of college and did my first freelancing illustration job, I knew it was what I wanted to do. But it was only when I moved to India, about 3 years back, that it actually became my full-time job and career" - Alicia.
When asked about how she starts off the process she follows while creating clever illustrations, Every other day she made others curious about her work that she did and so she reluctantly answered that in a picture.
And now she owns a huge fan page apart from her own page. When she first started her Facebook page she didn't expect such a response and she actually took 7 months to pep up about herself. She was worried if she wasn’t ready to get instant reactions and even tried convincing a friend to start one for her add ultimately did start it and she'd never looked back since then. And says that she can’t be more grateful for everyone’s support.
To any young illustrator, or anyone wanting to start freelancing in whatever field, the biggest advice is to be persistent, love your work and absolutely fall head over heels in love with what you want to do. Not only will it show in your work, but you will never get bored to keep putting it out there and letting the world know that it’s what you love.
Some of her freelancing work which I loved the most are posted below.
"Lola-Bear was an unwanted Lab puppy. I had never thought that I was going to keep her. Even after, repeated efforts I couldn’t find a home for her and as a result she and Charlie (another pet) bonded to unbelievable lengths" -Alicia.
